Beads & Dresses

I managed to pick up some necklaces from the Charity Shop today - they looked like good 'possibles' in the shop, but when I got them home and tried them on Tilly Rose with her 'Yamka' dress I wasn't so convinced. Maybe I will cannibalise them and make something a bit different.

Using some vintage fabric that has been lying around for sometime I thought I would see what it looked like made up into a little dress.

Judie insisted on wearing her pink shoes with it...I tried to get her to wear a blue pair, but she wasn't having it.

Next up, while I was trying to find my tin of beads and things, I saw some fabric that would probably sew up well to make another Yamka style dress...

It is a very soft fabric and drapes well.  I teamed it with the shell beads and I think these do go nicely with the dress.

Julia agrees.

I have been enjoying looking through my Sasha books, particularly the studio dolls and their clothing - I have various ideas I want to try out - once I have sorted through to find the appropriate fabrics.

  1. That's a really lovely pattern. I like the high waist/yoke and the three-quarters sleeves. Amazing what a difference in the Yamka versions vs. the Blue floral. They look like completely different dresses. I do like that little necklace you show with the grey dress. I think it fits the size and Yamka style beautifully! Lovely work, as per!!

    1. Thank you Lauri. This is my favourite pattern - I drew it up myself last year - after lots of adjustments - and really enjoy using it.

The dresses certainly do look different don't they? I wasn't sure how the blue would look, but I think it is fun and quirky. But I love the light coloured dress and the necklace is a perfect match.

  2. What a great idea! I have some beady necklaces which could be altered! I love that grey dress and those beads look really good on your lovely redhead! I look forward to finding more of your ideas translated into actual garments on your blog, Lorraine!

  3. These look really nice Lorraine, looks like you've had a very busy day!
I think the beads in the second photo from the top work best with the darker Yamka style dress and then lower down the page, those shells do look good with the grey. What you need now is a parrot who sheads his feathers all over the floor so that she can have some of those added to it too! LOL....ahh, I know just the parrot!!

    1. Ummm....No to the parrot ;-) Have enough problem with shredded paper (puppy), dog hair and other rubbish on the floor at the moment!

I too love the shell beads as well. I have teamed the brown beads with the black dress and the shells with the grey in the end.

  4. Wow! You are so busy and productive, how do you do it?! I LOVE the blue vintage fabric dress, and the other ones are really nice too. Maybe the girls need to mess up their hair a bit- or something- to go best with those dresses. Their beautiful hair is a bit too perfect for the more rustic, gypsy look, maybe. I'm sure they will have lots of fun if you send them outside to mess up their hair...maybe the boys would like to help ;)

    1. How do I do it Kirsten? I ignore everything else that needs doing! ;-)

Will get them out playing rough and tumble with the boys, WHEN we get some decent dry weather!
