Henry's Fashions....

Henry has been busying over seeing some sewing of his clothing line 'Henry's Fashions' today...

It has been a long time since I have done any sewing for the lads and the girls, but hopefully am back to it now

Hopefully more to come by the end of the weekend, all going well.

Knitting for boys

I haven't really been able to do any sewing or knitting this last week due to having been plagued with bad pain and a headache/migraine that I just haven't been able to shake.  However last night I did get out my knitting to finish the sleeves on a little jacket I was making for one of my Kidz n Cat's boys that I started the beginning of April.  This pattern is called 'Urban' by Debonair Designs and is a great pattern to knit.  Like all of Deb's patterns that I have tried so far, this is clearly written and very easy to follow and knits up exactly 'like it says on the packet'.  I wanted an 'earthy' look for the one I was making so used some of my wool (Naturally Heather) I bought from New Zealand while I was over there.  I am wishing I had bought more now as I only bought two balls of each colour that I wanted, and I am quickly using it up!  It wasn't cheap though...

Modelled by Kidz n Cats Bobo, currently renamed Bobby until anything better comes to mind.

I added the leaf buttons in different colours.

Seems to be just the thing for this cold and miserable spring weather we are getting

Need to make him some trousers now, it is far too cold for shorts!

I have also been working on a vest/tanktop for Henry.  I have been trying various patterns that I have either found or bought, but not really been happy with any of them as I wasn't achieving the look I wanted.

I sat down in the end with some graph paper and drew out the pattern and worked from that.  I'm still not happy with the neck line, but so much closer to achieving 'that look'...

Again this was using some of my New Zealand Wool, this time Naturally Aran Tweed which is 95% NZ Merino and 5% wool knops.

"Henry, where are you?"

"I'm here...", Henry answers rather strangely.

"Where?"

"Here!"

"What's this?  A pair of legs...?"

"It's me", giggles Henry.  "You asked me to model the new shorts, so I thought I'd do it upside down"

"Well don't giggle too much, or you will topple over. Now much as I think it is a very novel way of modelling new clothes, I'd quite like you to stand upright now please"

"Oh, okay Mum...how's this pose?"

"Oh that is very professional Henry"

As you can see Henry is modelling a new pair of long shorts...

"What's that?", I ask.

"Oh can't I keep the shorts Mum, I haven't got anything made from New Zealand fabrics yet, and these are so cool", asks Henry...  "Please Mum"...he adds.

"Well...let me have a think about that Henry, after all if I let you keep these, what about your brothers, they haven't got any either!"

1.  Short Dungarees with fake pocket detail on the leg and working pocket on the bib, does up with press studs and decorative buttons.  The pattern on the fabric is a Maori design 'Ponga Koru'

2.  Here we have a shirt with small buttons and button holes in Tuatara fabric.  The Tuatara is often called New Zealand's living dinosaur and is a member of the reptile family, order Sphenodontia.  The two species of tuatara are the only surviving members of its order, which flourished around 200 million years ago!

The shirt is teamed with a pair of cargo shorts, in Ponga Koru fabric.

3.  Next up is an outfit featuring the iconic New Zealand toy 'Buzzy Bee'.  It is New Zealand's most famous children's toy and is often handed down from generation to generation.  Brightly coloured, the wings move when pulled along and it makes a click clacking sound.

Both the shorts and top can be featured together, or separately 

Together they look a bit like pyjama's but as separates, the shirt would go nicely with a plain pair of trousers/pants, and the shorts would be ideal 'board or swimming' shorts.

4.  Throughout New Zealand you can see the Pukeko, or purple swamphen which is found in damp pastures, lake edges, ponds, lowland swamps and even beside motorways!  Its colouring is vivid blues and black plumage with a bright red beak and legs.  Featured here on this fabric it makes a delightful fun shirt.

5.  Aotearoa 'Land of the Long White Cloud', is the name of the fabric the next shirt and shorts are made from.  Featuring many examples of New Zealand wildlife, vegetation and Maori designs.

The shirt has tiny buttons and button holes.

Again these items can be worn together or separately, mix and match style.

7. A simple yet stunning design featuring the Kiwi, Silver Fern and Puhutukawa flower has been used to make this shirt and shorts set.
