Dear Rory,
This year we had to reline our pond as it had sprung a leak. We
were careful to remove all the wildlife we found and keep them safely in buckets
etc... until the pond could be refilled. The weather was still cold and there was
no sign of the frog. You can imagine our surprise when in the mud at the bottom
of the pond there were about 10 frogs, they had been hibernating and we had
woken them up! OOPS!
But once the new liner was in and the water had settled they were
all put back carefully and all was well again.
So if you are off to look for frogs Rory we hope you don't get too
muddy!
Best wishes
Erica & Ursula
No wonder Rory was having difficulty the other day finding any frogs, one of his favourite animals.
ReplyDeleteThe weather of late has been exceptionally cold for this time of year, no wonder they thought that it was time to hibernate in the mud at the bottom of Erica's and Ursula's garden pond. (What a pity that he wasn't there watching the pond being emptied for the liner to be replaced.)
Guess that he'll now have to wait until the Spring to go frog hunting again unless he takes up Scuba Diving in the meantime.
Sasha love and thanks for an interesting post, from Kendal.

We always see our frogs at the beginning of March when they cover the pond in frog spawn.
ReplyDeleteWe will have to remember to take a picture of them for you.
