A Wonderful Gift

Yesterday in the post I received the most wonderful present from Norvell,  a friend in the US.  We collaborated  together last year to produce a gift for the Sasha Festival.

This beautiful smocked dress is simply delightful and is the best dress my Sasha girls have in their wardrobe and I feel so lucky to have received it.

My gorgeous Meredith is the lucky girl  chosen to wear it.

I just love the beautiful smocking work.

Thank you Dear Norvell, for being such a special friend and bringing a smile to my face.

  1. What a beautiful smocked dress, and it suits Meredith so well. Such a lovely gift to receive too!
Smocking is very popular here in Spain for both girls and boys...and the funny thing is, it is not called smocking but something like 'English embroidery'....I wonder where it originated, might have to google that!!
    Hugs Sharon in Spain xx

    1. It really is beautiful isn't it? I've always wanted a pretty smocked dress for my girls, I think I may have one other...and this one is just perfect.

    1. For sure, but I think I will have to wait, or learn how to do smocking myself! I feel so lucky to have this dress.

  3. This is wonderful, just so pretty. I really like that floral print too. VERY pretty.

I would love to make a smocked bodice for a doll dress. Don't you wish Norvell lived next door to you? I wish someone lived next door to me so I could dash over with questions and get a lesson. One of these days I'll try to figure it out myself.

  4. She looks absolutely gorgeous in her beautiful new dress and with the toneing sandals and white socks looks ready for spring (if it ever arrives)

  5. That lovely dress brings back memories of two smocked dresses my mother bought me for first grade...I thought they were princess dresses!
    That was back in 1956!

  6. Lorraine, she is truly a beauty, and her dress is worthy of her. If I had such a dress, it would be the most beautiful in my collection as well- and same for Meredith! She is an English Sasha, right? Her eyes seem very different from others. Almost more like an early Gotz- entirely hand painted?

I tried smocking once, and mine came out a bit crooked- Norvell's looks so perfect! My collars never come out so perfect either...sigh!

I am happy for you to receive such a lovely gift!

    1. Thank you Kirsten, it is ever so nice of you to say so. I haven't tried smocking yet...I hope to one day!

Yes Meredith is an English Sasha, her eyes were hand painted by an art student called Kristina when she worked in the Frido/Trendon factory for a short while.

  7. This is probably the best set of photo's of her, the dress suits her so well and makes her look lovely and bright and fresh.
Novell is obviously a very good needlewoman and the fabric is lovely

    1. Thank you Dee, I think you are right, it has taken me a while, but I think I finally managed to capture how I see her. Really appreciate your comment :-)

Of course the fabulous dress helps for sure!

  8. Beautiful doll! Gorgeous dress! Excellent photography. Neat un-obtrusive background! This post has it ALL! Congratulations and well done.

I so agree with Dee that these are the best photos of Meredith that you have ever taken as it shows here at her as she really is, a gorgeous and rare NP doll, dressed in her very best.

Her new dress is oh so truly 'English!' Soft muted tones with dainty floral sprigs (very Liberty print!) and equisite smocking on the full yoke. Colour co-ordinated sandals! She looks picture perfect!

I'm hoping that producing this super post had made you feel tons better after your recent health problems.
