Failed at the first hurdle!

Back in December I admired a doll Shelly had put on her blog...but did nothing about it....  Last week seeing she was still waiting patiently for a new home I could resist no longer.  I have absolutely no will power it turns out!  Only in January and have already added to my Sasha doll collection despite my intentions not to!  Failed at the first hurdle it seems.

Here are her arrival photos:

Her dress is sweet, but a bit short for her I feel.

I took a few of her the day she arrives as she is just so beautifully photogenic!

I am planning on making her, her own wardrobe of clothes - something I think will suit her personality and style a bit more.

In the meantime she is wearing a corduroy mini skirt and sweater I made a few years ago, teamed with a pair of boots.

I love her hair!

I think Shelly has done a wonderful job of repainting this girl.  On a whole I prefer 'original' Sasha dolls, but she stole my heart.

She has chosen the fabric she wants me to make her something with!

Quite a combination!  Difficult to get the true colours.  The top fabric is a brown, almost suede type fabric with gold studs, the floral is fine needle cord and the other is a gold textured fabric.

Now to design her first outfit!

    1. Thank you Michelle. I am looking forward to seeing what I make from the fabric she picked as well! Still undecided ;-)

  2. Now you have a bar to compare other dolls to, it , will be easier to pass by other dolls. She's so lovely, it will be hard to find another that steals your heart as much. I'll think of you sewing for her--what fun. I've challenged myself to make 50 garments this year (I want try and make one a week with a few weeks making more and a few week off for holidays). So far I've only totally completed one thing, but this week is made for sewing and knitting!

    1. That is a good way to look at things Julie! Let's hope it will be easier to by pass other dolls now - although I think the best way for me is to simply not look!

As you may be aware I had already set myself a sort of challenge to make each doll I bought last year a small wardrobe, starting with Jemima so I do have a few projects to keep me occupied for sure! Like your challenge as well :-)

  3. hmmm, can't say I am surprised to see a new kid come to live with you! They are difficult to resist! Let me know how sewing that studded fabric goes...it looks like a needle-breaker to me! Maybe hand sewing? can't wait to see the results!

    1. Just hopelessly hopeless am I Marti! But I really need to focus now - so the mission is to sew and knit. Yes the fabric should be interesting for sure. Just got to dig into the recesses of my imagination (if I can find it) to make something with it!

    1. Thank you Erica, I think she really suits this outfit - it was going to be a temporary measure, but I think she is going to want to keep it!

I would not have been able to resist this girl either. She is uniquely beautiful!

  6. She is wonderful Lorraine! I love her repainting and I really like the new outfit with the very lovely boots. It will be nice to see what you make for her. Her hair styling gives her a more relaxed and a free "air" about her. A very special girl! :) xxx

    1. Thank you Ginger! I am very excited by her and love just everything about her. She is quite different from most of my other Sasha family.

  7. She's well worth falling at the first hurdle of your 'no buying of any dolls' New Year resolution though!
Actually I tend to much prefer the unique customised OOAK dolls to the originals.
If you feel that this 60s style of dress is a little on the short side (although they were just like this in those days when you usually tried to co-ordinate your knickers to the dress/skirt colours!) you could always make or add a cropped pair of leggings or shorts as I so often do here with my dolls.

    1. She was well worth it and I really adore her.

I think on one of my more petite Sashas the dress will look better - it is a lovely dress, but somehow I just don't feel it is right for her...it is not meant as any criticism...I think I will try it on one either Molly or Monica my brunette girls. Funny though, I am sure the skirt she ended up wearing is just as short! Cropped leggings are always good as well.

  8. This young lass has an unique look, quite unlike other Sashas I've seen. The repaint has retained the Sasha features but added a new dimension. For some reason I think she kind of looks like Jennifer Aniston! I agree she is very photogenic. I like your choice of fabrics for her.
