Ideas...

I have been spending the last few days filling pages of A4 paper, with ideas, plans, working on characters and trying to work out a new name for a combined blog which is proving much harder than I thought!  Trying to get something short, catchy and memorable, and also related to what I do and what my blogs are about, is not quite as easy as it sounds!

I was a little surprised that not many girls were really mentioned in relation to this blog post 'Most Memorable Characters'.  Does this mean I focus more on the boys (which I know I do to some extent) or that my girl characters are less memorable? (not including Peggy Sue of course)  There is at least one girl who I was surprised didn't get a mention.  Although only a few people have commented so far, so perhaps not all have seen the post yet.

In the meantime it seems Henry and Peggy Sue also have some ideas of their own!  They are joined by Rory and the new boy Donny, who has been following Henry round like a lost shadow as he is a little unsure of just where he fits in to the family.

I found my puppet Henry!  Someone had hidden it from me, I feel I haven't seen it for years!  Rory informs Henry,

I am sure they didn't Rory.  Henry reassures him.

Yes they did, I bet it was the twins!  Rory replies.  Anyway have you got Puppet Theatre down on your list?

Of course he has.  Peggy Sue says.  Look.

It is right here at the top of the list.  Henry tells Rory.

Where?  Rory asks.

Right here, see.  Henry shows him.

Oh okay.  Rory says.

Do you have any other ideas?
 Peggy Sue asks.

The four discuss other ideas.  The boys naturally are hoping that more work will be done on their Tree House this year...

Peggy Sue agrees as she too thinks the tree house is fun.

But you are not allowed to get up to any mischief Peggy Sue.  Henry says remembering the Halloween surprise that Peggy Sue and Alice were roped into by the girls last year.

What about a puppet theatre Henry?  Rory asks.

Peggy Sue puts her hand to her head and says in exasperation, We already have that on the list Rory!

See, right there, top of the list... and she points to it.

Oh yeah... I just wanted to make sure.  Rory says in a small voice.

Donny just stares at Peggy Sue in amazement.

He has never met anyone quite like her before!

Advent 2016 - Day Twenty Four: Christmas Eve

Good morning Peggy Sue.  Henry says.  You look tired.

I am, said Peggy Sue.  I could hardly sleep last night, I am getting so excited.

So where is the window for today then?  Henry says as he looks at the Calendar.

It is right in front of you Henry!  Peggy Sue says.

So it is.  Says Henry.

He opens it up.

I am betting it is going to be Santa today.  Henry says as he reaches in to pull out the little package.

Sure looks like you might be right. Peggy Sue agrees.

I think so.  Henry says as he looks down at the little package of 'red bits'

Yup, there is a body, legs, head, beard and other things in here.  Henry says as he looks at all the pieces.

Shouldn't take me long to join them all together. Henry tells Peggy Sue as she watches.

Head and body together.

Now for the other bits.

Finished!  I'll put him with the sleigh.  Henry tells Peggy Sue..

Here you go Santa, hope on in.  Henry tells him.

Santa is already for his deliveries...although it is a rather strange contraption at the front!

Both Peggy Sue and Henry agree on that.

So now the Advent Calendar is finished I will offer my thoughts on it in comparison to the previous years when the Sasha and Gregor 'children' have opened Playmobile ones.

The Playmobile Calendars seemed to have much better themes in which all the characters and objects fitted in properly.  Even when they weren't really Christmas related, the themes worked.  Plus the Playmobile sets all had separate theme boards so that they can be used for further play, whereas this Lego scene board is actually attached to the Calendar window box in which the little presents were inside, so it is not really reusable in terms of play and actually opening the windows each day got in the way of the scene.

This Lego Advent Calendar was disappointing on quite a few levels, as mentioned the theme board being attached, the pieces seeming to be a bit 'random' and no real theme as such apart from winter, but it all seemed a bit mix and match.  Perhaps I am missing the point, I suppose it is a 'Lego City' but there didn't really seem to be much 'story'.  For the price I won't be buying a Lego Calendar again, it was a lot more expensive than the previous years Calendars, and yes whilst Lego, and Lego always being fun, it didn't really in my mind 'do' it for us.

Previous years:

2012:  Playmobile Dinosaur Hunters - this was our first year and the boys absolutely loved this.

2013: Playmobile Winter Wonderland - the girls especially enjoyed this one with all the wild animals.

2014: Christmas Day (While trying to find this photo, I realised that instead of transferring my 2014 Photo Folder to an external drive, I must have deleted it instead - so rather devastating!  This I have copied from the post I made)

2015:    Knights and treasure

Advent 2016 - Day Twenty Three

Peggy Sue was spotted whispering to Henry this morning.

Henry was seen listening intently...

You think it will be okay?  He says.

I don't see why not.  Peggy Sue answers.

Come on then, let's do it! Henry suggests.

So do you want to open today or tomorrow?  Henry asks Peggy Sue as she looks at the Advent Calendar.

I'll open today and you can do tomorrow.  She suggests.

Ooff..let's move this over here.  She says as she pushes the box closer to the calendar so she can stand on it.

Here it is!

Here Peggy Sue, let me steady you.  Henry gallantly offers.

Peggy Sue reaches into the little door.

A red package. She declares.

Is it Santa? Henry asks.

No I don't think so.  Peggy Sue replies.

See, definitely not Santa.  Peggy Sue says as she spreads the pieces out.

I think it might be his sleigh though.   She informs Henry.

Well this is a strange sleigh don't you think Henry?  Peggy Sue says.

Definitely different.  Henry agrees.

I'll put it here. Peggy Sue tells him.

Perhaps you will get Santa tomorrow.  She says as she looks over the scene with Henry.

Almost complete.

My thoughts on this Advent Calendar in comparison to previous years will follow tomorrow's post.
