Building a Base.

We need the pieces sawn here....  Henry tells his Dad.

All the pieces line up nicely.  Bobby says.

Do you think the supporting boards should go here?  Henry & Bobby ask Gwilym

I think they should go in a bit more.  Gwilym suggests.

There seems to be something missing though.  Gwilym wonders... or rather something ISN'T missing!

Of course!  There is no hole for the trap door.  Henry tells Gwilym.

A little later the boards are cut to make a hole for the trap door.

Last screw.  Bobby tells Gwilym and Henry.

Ta da!  All done.  The boys cheer.

Look this is just perfect.  Henry says as he tries out the trap door hole for size. Once we have got a couple of fold back hinges we can attach the trap door.  Won't that be fun?  We will be able to pull up the ladder so no one can climb up if we don't want them to!

With some help they decide to manoeuvre the old bird feeder stand into position and place the Tree House base on it. This way if they want to move there Tree House to another position they will be able to. They attach the ladder.

Bobby and Henry climb up in no time.

Come on Gwilym, it is great up here.  Henry calls down to Gwilym.

I'm coming.  Gwilym calls back.

Henry looks down.... Do you need a hand?  He asks.

No, I am okay.  Gwilym answers.

It's a long way up isn't it?

  1. Awesome! Just what they needed - Dad did a great job and it is great that they get a treehouse they can move around. So pleased to see the rope ladder being put to good use as well. I am sure they would pour scorn on a handrail around their platform.

    1. The rope ladder was perfect for the job...and absolutely can you imagine their horror if I suggested a handrail?!

  2. All looks wonderfully exciting as it is taking shape. A very good idea using the bird table stand as a secure and moveable support.

Adore the photos of 'Dear' Henry looking down through the trap door at Gwilym and the following one of him looking up at Henry. Great posing!
The leafy branches make an attractive and super camoflaged background to the den. It's fabulously 'cool' just as it is, an escape place to meet and hang out away from the girls and prying eyes!

    1. Once the trees grow round it, it will be even more camouflaged...they have been pruned back for the moment, but next spring it will be the ideal hideaway.

    1. They are very pleased indeed...unfortunately a VERY wet day has stopped outdoor play today much to their disgust! It is not only wet it is also cold, so they are tucked up inside playing indoor games...making dens I believe.

  5. Ah, wet day play..... a blanket over the kitchen table with your duvet as a ground sheet is highly recommended for indoor camping.

  6. Poor Gwilym! It looks to me as though there aren't enough rungs on that ladder. - Jocelyn

  7. Super tree house boys, and so well reported by 'Mum"...wishing you lots of fun. I think you may need some kind of shelter up there. Fanny

    1. Yes they will indeed Fanny but apparently Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither will their tree house! But they have some ideas to provide some shelter....
