Machine Smocking

An evening on my own last night and my sewing machine still up at house, I thought I would try my hand at machine smocking, something I have never attempted before. With no pattern and no real idea of what I was doing, I very much 'winged' it, making it up as I went along... Needless to say I was a lot later to bed than is usual!

Sasha, my 1974 Trendon girl got first try at modelling the dress.

I love this delicate flower print and think the colours suit her well.

Although I have no more of the fabric left, well certainly not enough to make another dress!

Cold enough for a coat!

Thursday is quilting day. I set off in the morning with my sewing machine and various fabrics to enjoy a day of quilting with like minded friends. I always take some other work with me as well so when I finished my quilt top today (pictures here) I cut out a coat to make for Amber, my 1965 Gotz Girl with large head and yellow eyes . I finished the edging at home this evening.

A close up of her lovely face

Not the best fabric to sew with, being curtain remnants that frayed quite easily, but because it is fully lined/reversible all the seams are fully enclosed.

Hmm...I think she could do with some socks!

Not just Sasha

I don't just collect and sew for Sasha, although she really has taken over my heart. Years ago I collected fashion dolls, primarily Tressy, but also a few vintage Barbie and Sindy. I haven't added to this collection for quite a number of years now, but I do still have them on display. I have also enjoyed dress making for them as well and these are just a few of the items I have made.

Needle cord Dungarees.

Just a little sewing managed this afternoon...after running around all day doing various jobs for other people I needed a bit of time out.

I was given some offcuts of some needle cord the other day and thought I would make another pair of dungarees for Tilly Rose. Tilly is a bit of a tomboy and really likes to wear dungarees, trousers or leggings.

Just need to sew on some buttons for decoration, although I've been told 'no girly buttons'

I've been asked to add pockets next time! These kids do like to give me challenges.

Recycling Jeans into Dungarees

Well what is the weather doing I wonder, first it is hot, then pouring with rain, mild and now overcast with a slight chill in the air. There are even conkers on the ground near us! Please don't tell me Autumn is on its way.

In reflection of the weather today I made a pair of dungarees out of an old pair of DS2's jeans. Shhh, don't tell him ;-)

Emily on the left is wearing a gorgeous pair of dungarees and t shirt made by Patty, and the girl on the right is wearing the jean dungarees and hand knitted short sleeve jumper and cardigan I made while in NZ.

This lovely girl has re-rooted hair, by Sarah of Sasha-Vintage.

Emily is showing her round, taking time to smell the flowers and welcoming her.

Off to do some more experiment with fabrics...

A day out by the canal.

George, Emily and Sasha had a day out today, although Sasha said it was far too hot for her to go out in the sun with her blonde hair and fair skin...especially as Mum had forgotten the sunblock! However that didn't stop George getting up to some mischief.

This looks like fun...

Look at me in the life saver.

Always a spot of tree climbing to be done

and of course climbing up onto posts to be 'King of the Castle'

Emily is astounded, how DID George get up there? Did he shimmy up?

Babies on the grass

Our lawn was mowed yesterday (finally!) so today the babies wanted to go outside to enjoy some of the dry weather.

Goodness, how DID I end up with this number of babies? I'm sure they must keep multiplying on their own. ;-)

Crawling like Panda.
